Score Leagues — Rules
Predict Every Score. Climb Every League.
1. The basics
Each round, you predict the scoreline for every match. For each match you also pick a Star Performer — a player you back to score in that game.
A historically less probable call is worth more. A correct prediction on a common, expected score earns fewer points; a correct prediction on a historically less probable result earns far more. The bolder the pick, the bigger the reward.
2. Making your predictions
- Enter a predicted scoreline for each match in the round, and pick a Star Performer for each match.
- You can change a prediction as many times as you like up until it locks (see below). The last version saved before lock is the one that counts.
- If you do not predict a match, you score nothing for it. There is no auto-fill.
When predictions lock
- Each match locks individually, at its own kick-off. Once a match kicks off you can no longer enter or change your prediction for it.
- Matches later in the round stay open until each one kicks off. So you can join a round late and still predict any match that has not yet started.
3. How scoring works
For each match you can earn points across five elements:
- Getting the home team's goals right
- Getting the away team's goals right
- Getting the exact scoreline right (a bonus on top of the above)
- Getting the result right (home win / draw / away win)
- Your Star Performer for that match scoring in it
The less historically probable the call, the more it pays. A correct prediction on a common, expected outcome is worth less than one on a historically less probable outcome. You always see what a pick is worth before you commit to it; how those values are set is part of the game and is not published.
4. How points are awarded
All scores and points are worked out automatically by Score Leagues.
The results are final, in the same way an official match scoreline is final. Points are awarded automatically and are not adjusted, overridden or disputed on a case-by-case basis. This keeps every league fair and consistent for everyone.
5. Jokers
You get two jokers each round — one of each type:
- Double Match — doubles your scoreline and result points for one match.
- Double Star — doubles your Star Performer points for one match.
Rules:
- One Double Match and one Double Star per round. You can use both in the same round, but only one of each.
- You can put both on the same match. They don't compound — Double Match doubles the scoreline and result points, Double Star doubles the Star Performer points, and each only ever doubles its own part.
- A joker locks at the same time as the match it applies to (that match's kick-off).
- Jokers are not shared between leagues automatically (see Section 7).
6. What other players can see
- Your predicted scorelines and Star Performers are never visible to any other player. Not before kick-off, not after, not at the end of the round. There is no setting that changes this.
- Earned points are always visible to everyone in your league. Once a match is scored, the points each member earned from it are public within the league — results must be verifiable by the people you're competing against.
- Potential points are the points your saved predictions could earn before matches are scored. You always see your own, shown faded. Each league has one setting — "Show other players' potential points" — chosen by the league creator: when it's on, you also see other members' potential (faded, totals only); when it's off, you see only your own. Either way, never their actual predictions.
- The ghost's potential is never shown. You see a ghost's score for the round only once its matches have been scored.
7. Public vs private leagues, and applying your predictions
Public leagues. The predictions you enter in My Predictions apply automatically to every public league you are in.
Private leagues — nothing carries over automatically.
- Your My Predictions entries do not apply to a private league unless you press the Apply button for that specific private league.
- You apply to each private league individually. Applying to one does not apply to the others.
- The exception: if you switch on "Apply my predictions to all my private leagues automatically" in your Settings, your My Predictions entries apply to every private league you're in, automatically — no Apply button needed.
Jokers — separate from predictions.
- Even after you apply your predictions to a private league, your jokers do not come with them.
- To use a joker in a private league you must toggle that joker on for that league as well.
- The exception: a separate Settings toggle, "Apply my jokers to my private leagues automatically" (available once automatic predictions are on), applies your jokers to your private leagues for you — except head-to-head leagues, where enabling a joker is always done per league.
Summary. Public leagues receive your predictions automatically. Private leagues require you to apply your predictions for each league individually, and to enable your jokers for each league separately.
8. League types
Standard leagues
Everyone in the league is ranked on a single table by total points. Most points wins. A tie is rare; players level on points share the position.
Head-to-Head (H2H) leagues
H2H works like a football league table rather than a points pile.
- Up to 20 players per H2H league.
- Every H2H league has a close date, set by its creator (and editable by the creator until it passes). Up to the close date anyone with the invite can join; after it, the league is closed to new members permanently.
- At the close date the full fixture schedule is drawn — each round pairing you against one other member — and stands for the league's entire duration. The league's first round is the earliest round whose opening match kicks off at least 24 hours after the close, so everyone has time to predict.
- If a league has fewer than two members at its close date, it is void — it never starts, and no points are scored in it.
- Whoever scores more prediction points that round wins the fixture. A win is worth 3 table points, a draw 1, and a loss 0.
- The league table is ranked by table points. If two players are level on table points, their total prediction points across the season is the tie-breaker.
Ghost opponents. You play against the ghost when there is an odd number of players in the league, so one member is always without a human opponent that round, or when your opponent has forfeited (see below). The ghost makes a prediction for every match, generated on an expected-probability basis. You do not see the ghost's predicted scores, but you see its final score for the round.
Not predicting enough. A player who predicts fewer than half of the round's matches is treated as not having turned up. They automatically lose that round's fixture, and the opponent who was due to face them plays the ghost instead.
9. Fair play
- One account per person.
- Predictions, jokers and results are handled automatically; entries can't be changed after a match locks.
